Below is the long version of our class listing that provides more detail on
what the class is about. It also provides information on what is required for
the class with respect to materials and any prework.

Student Skill Level:
Beginner – You have never knitted or crocheted before.
Advanced beginner – You know how to cast-on, knit and purl, bind off and have
made a scarf or two.
Intermediate – You are proficient at reading simple patterns and have done a
variety of stitches.
Announcement #1) All classes have a 2 student minimum
Announcement #2) Grab a friend and take a class. Pick your Project is perfect,
you can each work on different projects.
1) New Knitter – Adult: Beginner. You will learn how to cast on, knit, purl
and bind off. You will make a sample to learn the process of knitting. Class
limit: 4 students. Cost: $25. Needles and yarn will be provided. Instructor:

2) New Knitter-part 2: Advanced Beginner. This is a perfect continuation of
the new knitter class or for those who have not knitted in a while. You need
to know how to knit, purl, cast on and bind off, but may have not gone beyond
a simple scarf. The first of this two session class offering will feature
increases, decreases, yarn-overs, and changing from knit to purl to form rib.
The second session will be dedicated to learning how to read a pattern and
working on practicing your new found skills by knitting a pattern- Old Shale,
also known as Feather and Fan.
For this class you will need size 7 or 8 needles and 50 yards of worsted
weight yarn to practice new to you stitches.
Class limit: 5 students. Cost: $20 plus materials. Instructor: Candace

3) Learn to Crochet: Beginner. Get started crocheting. You will learn how to
get started with a crochet chain; from there you will learn the single, half
double and double crochet stitch plus simple increases and decreases. In the
class you will make a small sample piece suitable for a potholder or coaster.
Class limit: 5 students. Cost: $20. Crochet hook and yarn provided.

4) Learn Continental Knitting: Beginner/Advanced beginner. This method is done
by holding the yarn in the left hand and placing the yarn in the ideal spot
for picking as you knit. This class is for anyone who wants to learn the
German continental method of knitting. The benefit to this is it will
eventually increase your knitting speed, and help you do two color knitting by
being able to hold one color in each hand. You will need to bring one set of
straight needles and yarn that is suitable for the size needles you bring.
This class is also available by appointment. Class limit: 5 students. Cost:

5) Pick Your Project-Knitting: All levels. In this class, you can work
on any project you desire: Sweaters, Socks, Hats, Mittens anything. Have a project that you would like
to make but feel challenged by the pattern? Bring it to this class and get the
help when you need it. Everyone in the class may be working on different items
and be at different knitting levels. No problem, the instructor will be there
as a consultant and assistant. Class limit: 6 students. Cost $20 plus

7) Finishing-Knit: Advanced beginner to intermediate. In this class you will
learn how to work a sewn bind-off; how to use Mattress stitch to join two
pieces of knit work together in both Stockinet and Garter stitches; how to
join horizontal to vertical seams as for setting in a sleeve, and how to
invisibly weave in ends. Students must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and
bind off. PRE-WORK required: please bring already knitted swatches, prepared
as follows:
1. Swatches with a smooth, light-colored, worsted weight yarn, cast on 20
stitches and knit 20 rows in Stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row). Make
two, and bind off each when finished.
2. Swatches with a smooth, light-colored, worsted weight yarn cast on 20
stitches and knit 20 rows in Garter stitch (knit every row). Make two, and
bind off each when finished.
3. With a smooth, light-colored, worsted weight yarn, cast on 20 stitches and
knit 20 rows in Stockinet stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row). LEAVE THIS SWATCH
ON YOUR NEEDLE..
Please also bring 2 yards of a smooth scrap yarn in a different color, a
blunt, large-eyed needle (tapestry needle), tape measure and scissors. Class
limit: 5 students. Cost: $15 plus materials (used in pre-work above).

8) Ready, Set, Oops: Intermediate. In this class Tina will touch on numerous
subjects such as how to read yarn labels, why yarn gauge is so important, how
to fix mistakes in your knitting, how to read your work, how to count rows and
what a twisted stitch looks like. Bring your questions with you and Tina will
guide you through all those little mishaps that can happen. PRE-WORK required.
You will need to bring a sample knitted with worsted weight, light colored
yarn on a size 7 or 8 US needles. Cast on 24 stitches, do 2 inches of
stockinette stitch (knit one row purl one row), 2 inches of 2x 2 ribbing (k2,
p2), 2 inches of garter stitch (knit every row), and finish with 1 inch of
stockinette stitch. Leave the sample on the needle. Do not bind off. Bring a
size G crochet hook to class. Cost: $15. Class limit: 5 students. Instructor:

9) Socks-your-Way: Advanced Beginner. Choose a sock pattern, and Nancy will
help you make a sock. Choose from double point or circular needles, top down
or bottom up. Your choice. Cost: $25 plus materials. Class limit:5 students.

10) Mitten Tour of Scandinavia II: Intermediate. All the fun of the original
Mitten Tour of Scandinavia plus four new designs, including mittens from
Estonia and Latvia. Designs include a Swedish twined mitten with embroidery, a
Norwegian "fishtail" mitten with embroidered gauntlet from Winter 2011
Knitting Traditions, Nancy Bush's "Kalev's Mitten" from November/December 1999
Piecework and "Latvian Refinement" from Winter 1997 Knitter's Magazine. All
original Mitten Tour patterns will be available as well. Patterns are
available at sign-up or students may purchase/bring their own copies. Required
materials are listed with each pattern. Students are encouraged to make their
own color and materials' choices. Cost: $25 plus materials. Class limit: 5

11) Entrelac Hat: Advanced beginner. Learn the skill of entrelac by making
this wonderful hat.
The pattern is the "4th Grade Entrelac Hat" by Abby Franquemont, free on
Ravelry. Click on link below and print out before coming to class. It uses any
yarns and has a chart at the end that tells: if you cast on this many stitches
at this gauge, this is the size hat you will end up with.

12) Girasole Shawl: Intermediate. Back by popular demand, Jared Flood’s beautiful
round shawl Girasole!
If you use fingering weight yarn you will get a light lacy shawl, use bulky
yarn you get a wonderfully warm afghan for you to cuddle up in the coming
winter months. Come see our sample, knit in a worsted weight, great for a
large warm shawl. Pattern can be downloaded for $6.50 from Jared’s website:

13) Reading Charts: Advanced beginner. Do you avoid patterns that have charts?
Well this class will help you decipher those crazy symbols. You will learn to
read lace charts, and cable charts. You will be knitting a sample of each.
They really are only a picture of your knitting. Please bring light colored
sport or worsted weight yarn, and needles appropriate for the yarn. Cost: $15
